Support for those who have been made redundant due to lack of work

This information explains the support you can get from Trygghetsstiftelsen if you have worked for the same government employer for at least twelve months in a row.

Job search activities and individual support

Trygghetsstiftelsen supports you in your efforts to find a new job, start your own business, or engage in other activities.

When your employer has notified Trygghetsstiftelsen that you have been laid off, we can schedule a meeting. You will meet with one of Trygghetsstiftelsen’s advisors for a planning session. During this session, you will identify your current situation and your thoughts about the future. Together, you will discuss how Trygghetsstiftelsen can best support you to increase your opportunities in the job market and find the quickest path to a new job.

Trygghetsstiftelsen offers job search activities, job coaching and recruitment services, all aimed at supporting a quick return to the job market. There may also be opportunities for other individual support such as internships and training.

Leave of absence during termination

To help you to quickly find new employment, you are entitled to take a leave of absence without a salary deduction to carry out the transition activities you plan and document with Trygghetsstiftelsen. You must inform your employer about the planning and any changes that occur. It is your employer who decides on the leave of absence.

If you earn a salary from another job during this leave, it will be deducted from your termination pay.

Financial support

When you get a new job

If you get a new job with a lower salary than you had in your previous job, you can apply for income support for up to 780 days.

The income support corresponds to the difference between your old and new salary, but no more than 30 percent of your previous salary. Taxable supplements, such as holiday pay, are included in the calculation.

Absence days due to waiting days, parental leave and leave of absence can affect the right to compensation in the income support.

In case of unemployment

If you receive unemployment benefits, you are entitled to apply for 300 days of unemployment benefit supplementation (a-kasseförstärkning). If you have children under 18 when you reach the 301st compensation day, you can apply for 150 more days by sending us your unemployment fund’s (a-kassa) decision.

The unemployment benefit supplementation provides you with an additional amount on top of the unemployment benefits, bringing your compensation up to approximately 80 percent of your established salary for days 1–200 and 70 percent of your established salary for days 201–450. We base your unemployment benefit supplementation on the lower salary when comparing your established salary with the unemployment fund to the salary you had in the agreement.

  • The unemployment fund pays up to 1,200 SEK per day for the first 100 days, which is 80 percent of a 33,000 SEK salary.
  • For days 101–200, the maximum is 1,000 SEK per day. You can apply for extra benefits if your monthly income is over 27,500 SEK.
  • For days 201–450, you can apply for extra benefits if your monthly income is over 31,430 SEK.

Once you are granted unemployment benefits, you can apply for unemployment benefit supplementation from Trygghetsstiftelsen, whether you receive full-time or part-time benefits.

Example:

If you had an average salary calculated by your unemployment fund of 35 000 SEK per month
80 % x 35 000 SEK = 28 000 SEK
28 000 SEK/22 days = 1 273 SEK per day
The unemployment benefit supplement will be:
 1 273-1 200 = 73 SEK per day.

Conditions for financial support

You are entitled to income support until you turn 65. The right to unemployment benefit supplement applies until the month before you turn 66.

You are required to inform us of any changes that affect your benefits to avoid repayment obligations.

Extended notice period

If you are laid off due to a lack of work, you will receive an extended notice period through the Avtal om omställning, which is longer than that provided by the employment protection act (LAS) or central collective agreements. The total notice period can be up to a maximum of twelve months.

Post-employment protection

Post-employment protection grants you the right to re-enter the agreement. This protection is valid for 18 months after your last working day with your government employer. This means that if you are laid off from a new job during this period and are not covered by another transition agreement with the new employer, you can re-enter the agreement (if your employment was terminated after September 30, 2022).

You also have the right to re-enter the agreement if you need to terminate a business you started with the assistance of Trygghetsstiftelsen.

Occupational health services

You are entitled to occupational health services until your last working day. Thereafter, you have the right to complete any ongoing treatments that have already been paid for by your employer.

Duration in the Agreement

For employees laid off due to a lack of work, the eligibility period for transition benefits under this agreement includes the total notice period plus an additional five years from the last working day. The notice period can be up to a maximum of twelve months.
